The Boca Grande Health Clinic Will Resume Normal Schedule on Monday, October 7
We want to keep you informed about our clinic’s status at the end of the first week post-Helene:
- Clinic Status: Our main building remains fully operational, though the annex did experience some flooding. The Annex remains closed due to flooding and extensive damage to the equipment.
- Care Availability: A small team of caregivers remains onsite, with physicians on call over the weekend. Call 941-964-2276 and follow the instructions for after-hours care. Full staffing and normal clinic hours will resume on Monday, October 7.
- Services: We’ve seen approximately 20 patients this week, including home visits. While lab services were paused, we’re happy to announce that normal lab services will resume on Monday, October 7. X-ray services remain available.
- Physical Therapy: We are working with Fitness Quest to find alternative arrangements for physical therapy services.
- Public Health Guidance: Due to the ongoing cleanup, we urge everyone to wear N95 masks in dusty areas, as debris may contain contaminants. Lee County water tests completed on Monday, September 30, 2024, indicate that the water quality at all Lee County beaches shows an acceptable level of Enterococcus bacteria established by state guidelines. However, there’s still a lot of debris on the beaches, so you should wait a bit before venturing out. Standing water from the storm is prime for bacteria and means a higher risk of a small open wound escalating to a life-threatening infection. Please visit us immediately for care if you have any cuts or abrasions. We have plenty of tetanus shots available.
- Community Update: Cleanup efforts on the Island are progressing slowly but steadily, with many workers and equipment in the area. Lee County continues to work on water removal on Gasparilla Road. The culvert installation under the bike path is complete. They are now focusing on the water trapped on the west side of the road. Gasparilla Island Water Association, Inc. is on track to have the wastewater system fully operational by the weekend. We’re all working hard to restore the Island as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to serve the community during this recovery period. We’re here for you – please don’t hesitate to reach out for your care needs.
Best regards,
Mark Driscoll, CEO
