Seasonal Physician Coverage for Same-Day and Urgent Care
To best serve our patients during the busy season, the Boca Grande Health Clinic is adding two highly experienced physicians to provide seasonal coverage for same-day and urgent care services.
Seasonal coverage this year is provided by Steven R. Newman, M.D., and David Hoang Nguyen, D.O.
Dr. Newman is an experienced emergency medicine physician and a graduate of Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine. He served as Medical Director for Sarasota County EMS, where he developed protocols. He is affiliated with Sarasota Memorial Hospital and brings extensive experience in pre-hospital emergency care. He currently practices emergency medicine at the Associated Family Physicians of Florida in Bradenton, Florida, and at the Community Care Clinic in Englewood, Florida.
Dr. Nguyen is an experienced, board-certified family medicine physician with dedicated clinical practice in diverse, high-acuity settings, including urgent care, emergency medicine, and telemedicine. He has demonstrated operational leadership capabilities, notably through his service as Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Emergency Medicine for a major federal humanitarian mission (Operation Allies Welcome). He is recognized for proficiency in procedural skills, EKG/X-ray interpretation, and complex patient management across multi-state licensure environments. He also has a strong foundational background in biomedical engineering, which provides a unique perspective on integrating technology and optimizing systems within the healthcare delivery system.
“When something unexpected happens—an illness, an injury, or a concern that can’t wait—patients shouldn’t have to leave the island for timely care,” said Mark Driscoll, Chief Executive Officer of the Boca Grande Health Clinic. “Seasonal physician coverage strengthens our ability to see patients the same day and respond to urgent needs during our busiest months.”
Same-day visits are appropriate for concerns such as sudden illness, minor injuries, respiratory symptoms, cuts that may need stitches, sprains, dehydration, and other urgent issues that shouldn’t wait. To request a same-day appointment, please call the Clinic at 941-964-2276 so our team can help guide you to the right level of care.
