
Say Hello to Our New Nurses

The Boca Grande Health Clinic recently welcomed three new nurses to the Clinic’s care team. “We are proud to have such an amazing team of clinicians to serve our Island patients community,” said Mark Driscoll, Boca Grande Health Clinic CEO. “These three professionals have made joining a new team, which can be challenging during the very best of time, a smooth experience for all, despite the pandemic.”
Meet our new nurses
Silvia McCoy, BSN, RN, TCRN
Silvia McCoy started at the Clinic in January 2021 as a Registered Nurse. Silvia graduated from Ellsworth in Iowa in 2003, then completed her bachelor of science degree in nursing at Western Governors University while living in Florida. She has 16 years of experience working primarily in emergency and trauma care. As a board-certified trauma nurse, she is an instructor for the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross and the Emergency Nurses Association. Silvia is also a Florida licensed emergency medical technician. Silvia is the president and founder of a local animal rescue shelter and spends most of her spare time working to find homes for the rescues.
Karen Ball
A desire to work together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic drew Karen Ball out of retirement to join the Clinic’s vaccination efforts in January 2021. Karen is a 40-year career registered nurse, with experience primarily in Pediatric ICU, Pediatric ED, Adult ED and Employee Health. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Karen is from Cincinnati, Ohio, but spends many months a year in Placida to be closer to her family. She and her husband Bill are very busy as parents of three adult children with four grandchildren!
Karen Trent
Karen Harrison-Trent began her journey at the Clinic in January 2021 as a Certified Medical Assistant. She is a 2020 graduate of Florida’s Southern Technical College and completed her certification exam in December 2020. Karen, her husband and daughter currently reside in Port Charlotte and has been a Florida resident for past 12 years.
