Here’s What’s New at the Clinic

As we welcome many of you back to the island, I would like to share a brief update on what’s been happening at the Clinic — from construction progress and new tools that enhance your care today to our plans for strengthening the medical team for the upcoming season.

We are incredibly thankful that our community made it through the hurricane season without a storm. That reprieve allowed the island—and the people and businesses that make it special and unique—to keep healing, rebuilding, and moving forward.

It has been a productive and future-focused summer for the Clinic. Construction of the Clinic of the Future has come a long way since the July groundbreaking, progressing from foundation work to walls, steel, and a fully framed building that is now nearing the weathered-in stage. This new facility will bring expanded laboratory and imaging capabilities, CT and ultrasound services, improved infection control through negative-pressure exam rooms, a dedicated telehealth suite, an onsite pharmacy, and new space for physical and rehabilitation therapy—all designed to make it easier to receive the care you need right here on the island. You can learn more about the project and follow construction progress at www.bghc.org/cotf.

We have also made several enhancements to improve your care today. Thanks to our partnership with Tampa General Hospital, we implemented Epic®, a new electronic health record system, and the MyChart® patient portal. MyChart gives you secure, anytime access to your health information, test results, and communication with our team, all fully integrated with the Clinic. We’ve also introduced new clinical tools, including the DermaSensor® device for early detection of skin cancer and the GI-MAP® test for better insight into digestive health.

Strengthening our clinical team is another priority. The Clinic is exploring options for extra physician coverage to meet urgent care needs during the busy months of the season. We are also recruiting a third full-time physician to maintain strong access to care for our patients. As part of this search, we are making a special effort to identify a female physician and will select the most qualified of all candidates based on experience, training, and the needs of our patient community.

Through all of this work—construction, innovation, recruitment, and careful planning—our mission remains clear: to provide personalized, timely, high-quality care for the residents and workers of Gasparilla Island.

On behalf of the entire team, welcome back. We look forward to seeing you, caring for you, and continuing to prepare for the future of healthcare on our remarkable island.

Warm regards,

Mark Driscoll
