Boca Grande Health Clinic Breaks Ground on the Clinic of the Future

With the ceremonial turning of dirt, the Boca Grande Health Clinic has officially launched the construction of a new facility designed to better serve the Island’s healthcare needs—today and well into the future.

The Clinic of the Future project is being developed in two phases to allow care to continue uninterrupted during construction. The first phase begins with building a new clinic on the site of the former Clinic Annex, which was demolished after sustaining hurricane damage. When completed, the new facility will expand clinical services and bring new and more diagnostics and treatment options directly to the island, reducing the need for off-island travel and allowing patients to get the care they need, when they need it, without leaving Boca Grande.

“This groundbreaking isn’t just about new walls or upgraded equipment,” said Mark Driscoll, CEO of the Boca Grande Health Clinic. “It’s about creating a place where personalized, patient-first care continues to thrive, supported by the tools and space we need to keep pace with modern medicine.”

The new clinic will feature onsite CT and ultrasound imaging, expanded lab testing, negative pressure exam rooms for infection control, and additional space for primary and same-day (urgent) care. These improvements are designed to shorten the time between symptoms and treatment—making care more convenient, more timely, and easier to access.

Construction on the new clinic is expected to be completed by May 2026, at which time the second phase of the project will begin. This phase will renovate the current clinic building to house administrative offices and a new rehabilitation center. This dedicated space will include physical, rehabilitation, and occupational therapy, modern equipment, and a hydrotherapy pool—offering much-needed therapy services year-round, right here on the island.

“Access to quality care is getting harder everywhere. Emergency rooms are stretched, hospitals are often full, and referrals take longer. The Clinic of the Future allows us to take more control—offering the advanced diagnostics and services our patients need, right here on the island,” said Dr. Raymond A. James, D.O. “It means we can act faster, make more precise diagnoses, and help patients avoid unnecessary ER visits or delays in care. That’s not just convenient—it’s potentially life-saving.”

The Clinic of the Future is the result of thoughtful planning by the Boca Grande Health Clinic Board of Directors and generous support from the Boca Grande community, with leadership from the Boca Grande Health Clinic Foundation. Construction on both buildings is expected to be completed in 2026, with services continuing throughout the build.
